The Mirriam-Webster dictionary defines Liberty as “1 : the quality or state of being free: a : the power to do as one pleases. b : freedom from physical restraint. c : freedom from arbitrary or despotic (see despot sense 1) control.” (Ref: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/liberty online, 2020).
We have long viewed lions as having the ultimate freedom, roaming the plains, King of all he surveys…until man comes along and either jails him, kills him for pleasure, or herds him into a place not his home. We seek this liberty for ourselves, we yearn to get away from the petty politics and scandals of our daily lives. True liberty may only exist in our minds, and the private spaces we call our own, with our own family, in our own territory. Our goal in our search for free speech, freedom of expression, freedom from oppression, freedom to be ourselves…in this, as the lions returned to the savannah, we long to roar our own song, and find our Liberty.
